Summary

A good backtesting software with interesting features but the price is significant and force you to buy a yearly plan or lifetime access. Plus, if you want to use all theirs assets, it's an additional cost (Pro plan). The diversity of the data is weak since they only have 1 broker. The interfaces are similar to Tradingview ones but the charts can regularly become slow. Finally, the statistics/analytics module is very basic and not very useful in the current state.

Market simulator

  1. check-circle-outline Speed. The Forextester interface is fast and convenient. You find easily what you need to backtest in the menus and settings.
  2. close-circle-outline Performance. Stable, we noticed no significant issues on performance for the Web version but the charts can be become regularly sluggish. The desktop version can have some minor stability issues.
  3. check-circle-outline Accuracy. The orders are processed on a tick by tick basis, but Forextester does not provide timeframes in seconds.

Historical data

  1. close-circle-outline Choice. They have much less choice than Naked-Markets with very few stocks (22), indices (61) and no futures. That's a bad point. And you have to pay additional fees to access all their assets.
  2. check-circle-outline Historical spread and tick-accuracy. The data is processed like tick accuracy data and real spread. Your backtests are useless if you can't use real spread to assess your strategy against extreme and historical markets conditions.
  3. close-circle-outline Timeframe in seconds. Forextester does not have timeframes in seconds.

Statistics

  1. close-circle-outline Very basic statistics. Their analytics feature is very limited, you only have 3-4 charts to show positions, profits and timing information. No risk ratio or monte-carlo simulation. Bad point.
  2. close-circle-outline No way to import external statements. Unfortunately, Forextester is not able to import external statements to assess the reliability of trading strategies.

Interface

  1. check-circle-outline Presentation. The main web version is similar to Tradingview but different in a lot of ways. For some actions, the interface can feel clunky but does the job overall.
  2. check-circle-outline Desktop/Web. You can trade online with the web Tradingview-like version or you can trade offline with the Desktop version. But the Desktop version of Forextester is a bit hidden on their website apparently.

Pricing

  1. close-circle-outline No free plan. You can't just try the web version, you have to engage yourself for 1 year to just test it. But they offer refunds.
  2. close-circle-outline The first tier is very limited. The Starter pack is limited with only 80 assets and no tick-accuracy data. To sum up, it's a bit useless. The Pro pack is has to be used to backtest seriously but it's more expensive.
  3. close-circle-outline No monthly plan. Another bad point is the lack of monthly plan. It allows the customer to see if the tool fits their need during only 1 month. It's not possible here, yearly engagement mandatory.
